BEYOND MY PERVERSIONS

Ham, Carpet, Steel Cable, Lavender Blossoms, Mink Coat, Garment Bag

Dimensions Flexible, 2022

The installation is a personal inquiry into one’s own cultural as well as familial heritage. As someone who was socialised as a child in Turkey and as a teenager in Germany, who holds both citizenships, is queer, shaped by both Islam and Christianity, and today lives and is rooted in both countries, the inner and outer collision of different dogmas and stigmas is my everyday life.

In Beyond My Perversions I attempt to create a congruent arrangement of cultural and personal artefacts within an installative still life, seeking to unite the questions of taboo, nostalgia, and conflict. I place all of this in the context of preserving this personal culture. Aversion and attraction take place here simultaneously and on equal footing.
